Under siege

The Kyria has gone absolutely mad today. Actually, it's been bordering insanity for a few weeks now.
It all started as memorial day/Independence day were nearing. A stage was built on the grass in front of the new building (new building is how the big office building that now holds most of the power-people at the Kyria is referred to) -- the same grass we're not allowed to step on, by order. Then they started building all sorts of tents, it went a bit crazy.
When memorial day/Independence day has come and gone, I expected the stage and tents to disappear but it only got worse. After keeping the stage for a while they moved it to be on the big area right in front of the building's entrances, and added 10,000 (I kid you not) chairs, little armed vehicles, portable potties by the masses, blocked off parking spaces (it's hard to park at the Kyria as it is unless you're a big shot with a saved parking space) and barricades. Lots and lots of barricades. It became so absurd that today we were unable to reach the building that holds the Yohalan unit. We had to go through an obstacle course of barricades just to get inside. Not to mention mobility around the Kyria became limited, the road to anywhere became longer and more annoying and at some point in the afternoon we were given pink stickers that without which we would not be allowed inside our own building. They also put a secret service guy at the entrance, and put lots of army police and various other security all over the place. All for a ceremony that takes place today (thank goodness, the siege would finally be over) for people who faught in the 1948 independence war. 10,000 seats. I didn't think that many of them are still alive today. And oh yeah, all that mess was because the minister of defence, that has an office in the Kyria and is there often, will be in the ceremony. They've gone seriously bonkers.

In other news, Relient K are releasing a fab new record. Check out all the details in Mr Thiessen's blog and in this press release. Also, check out their new song "The Scene And Herd" (it's so amazing it'll blow your ears off) over at their MySpace profile.
